My name is Nils Schramm, I am a 19 year old Austrian defender, currently playing for the Swedish J20 Team Vita Hästen.
Last season I played for the Steel Wings Alps Hockey Team, after I had started off the season with the Vienna Capitals ALPS Hockey Team, but to allow me to get more ice time I moved to Linz.
I have some experience in North America as I already played a few months with the NCDC team of the Northern Cyclones, but due to Covid I could not continue. Before that I played a season 2019 with North York Rangers in Toronto in the GTHL Midget AAA. In fact I moved with 15 on my own to Canada to pursue my dream of a professional hockey career. For the upcoming season 2021/22 I am looking to get a spot in a NAHL team and have college coaches.
In season 2021/22 I played for Innsbruck Under 20 and we won the Austrian Under 20 championships.
I have been also selected for the Austrian National team several times.
I would describe myself as a hybrid defenseman with good skating skills, which are improving in the Swedish league. I have a good shot and a very high level of endurance, giving always 110%.
My coaches have given me excellent grades on my Work ethic, acceleration and speed. The areas I need to improve are decision making and consistency, which I am working hard on.
Next to my hockey skills I excel at fitness and endurance tests, e.g. beep test – latest results was Level 14.5! Last half year I have been working extremely hard in the gym to increase my core muscles.
I have finished my my American High School diploma summer 2022, and have started studied Business Administration at the Middlesex University of London (online).
I love travelling and getting to know new countries and cultures. Ice hockey has allowed me to visit and live already in many different cities and countries, which I am very thankful for. Currently I am getting to know the Swedish traditions – one of the Swedish hockey traditions I am following is having a “hockeyfrilla“.
In my spare time I enjoy other sports as Golf, Padel tennis, Mountain biking, Snowboarding and Wake boarding.
